Meet Nicholas

I’m a photographer with a deep love of food and cooking.

I started cooking as a teenager when a girl I liked at the time said “I’d love to marry a chef” and I thought “Yeah, I can do that.” I cooked some noodles with veggies that night and gave it to my brother when he got off work, and he loved it - that was all I needed.

A few years later I started a food blog on Xanga and I can still clearly remember one of my very first photos of a potato wedge illuminated from behind by the sun, steam wafting off.

Fast forward years later and I’d moved to NYC and started taking photos of every restaurant I visited. Cooking was still a love of mine, but photography had become another great passion, and I loved putting the two together.

Photos from my blog got me noticed by a small food publication who invited me to shoot the North Nordic Food Festival in 2014 & 2015. In 2016, photographs of a restaurant in Bushwick, Montana’s Trail House, got me noticed by tech startup Nooklyn next door.

For the next several years I built out Nooklyn’s Neighborhood Guides by eating and photographing my way through thousands of restaurants in NYC, and hundreds in San Francisco when they were considering an expansion out west.

I got into higher production food photography with Convene, a luxury co-working startup with on-site culinary, where I learned to work with an art directors, food and prop stylists, assistants, a full kitchen staff, entire marketing departments, and more.

With my latest work at the Hotel Washington, I fused together my passion for food photography with my love of beautiful spaces as an architecture and interiors photographer, but that’s another website.

Today I am based in central New Jersey, a wonderful place to raise my sweet little boy and beautiful giggly baby girl alongside the wife of my dreams, while still having easy access to all the tasty eats of the major cities along the east coast.
