Radegast Hall & Beirgarten

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

This was the haunt for my group of friends throughout my early days in the city. Many a birthday and other celebrated defaulted to the great halls of Radegast. I got a little burned out on it after so many trips, but reviewing these images now is a testament to how incredibly rich the design and atmosphere is. I have many more photos I made here in the folder that didn’t make the cut to be presented to you now - I’m simply too embarrassed by their awful compositions or editing.

There is, though, a twinkling of nostalgia in seeing these. Seeing the way I used to shoot and edit is transporting in a way that brings back sights and sounds not just from this bar but other places and events at that time in my life. Funny how a particluar color grade or composition plugs into the web of memory and starts lighting up the connected nodes.

All that aside, Radegast is an amazing spectacle to behold. Feast on a delicious rabbit, listen to some spirited live jazz, clink your Maß of pilsner, chomp it to a radically juicy weißwurst, and revel into the darkness of the night with your kindred spirits.
